One of the most exhilarating and frustrating times for a shoe collector is release day – the day that a highly anticipated sneaker hits the market. The day where the lucky few will get to purchase rare or hyped shoes at retail cost – the lowest price the shoes will ever be. On this monumental day, a sneakerhead must bring their A-game. They must be prepared, strategic and patient. After all, they are competing against thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of other equally determined would-be purchasers for a very limited number of shoes. This is a competition where every SECOND counts. A game of equal parts strategy and pure luck. Where victors are few and the far majority turn away empty-handed. Where success is NEVER guaranteed. And we absolutely LOVE it.
We discuss release day highs and lows, successes and failures, as well as motivations behind collecting and purchasing rare shoes.
