Kansas City, Missouri, 1967. The Kansas City Athletics just did something that had never before been done in baseball- and they had MLB’s approval to do it. But Cleveland Indian manager Joe Adcock was having NONE of it.
It was the first time since ever that a major league baseball team had the audacity to deviate from the standard black or dark brown cleats in favor of white ones, and Adcock insisted they were a distraction, and as such should not be allowed on the field.
